A journey to Syria is not complete without a visit to Dar As Sakinah in Jisr Al Shughour.

Dar As Sakinah

From the outside, it is a simple building. Quiet. Modest. Almost easy to miss.
But inside lives a world of stories of orphans who lost everything too early, of small hands that learned to hold pain before they learned to hold toys.

Some were abandoned.
Some survived things no child should ever understand.
Some once slept on streets, carrying loneliness heavier than their school bags.

And here, in the same home, live elderly souls where many are disabled or forgotten with no one left to call family.
Dar As Sakinah became that family.

You witness it in the way a child runs to greet visitors.
In the way an elderly resident waits patiently for someone to sit beside them.
In the quiet routines that slowly rebuild a sense of safety… of belonging… of being seen again.

Nothing here is extravagant.
But everything here is care.

Meals prepared.
Medicine given.
Laughter returning in small, fragile moments.
A place where nights feel less frightening and mornings carry a little more hope.

This home continues to exist because hearts far away chose not to look away.
Because your donations turned compassion into shelter… and shelter into dignity.

So thank you!
Not just for giving, but for staying.
For making sure these children grow up protected, and these elders grow old with care.

Dar As Sakinah is more than a building.
It is proof that even after loss, a home can be rebuilt, gently, patiently, together.
